Adeboye’s star guest on Glo/CNN African Voices

LAGOS — The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, is the star guest on this weekend’s edition of “African Voices, a CNN International’s magazine programme sponsored by Globacom.
The 30-minute interview show runs on Saturdays, from 10.30 to 11.00 a.m. and 4.30 to 5.00 p.m. There are also repeat broadcasts on Sunday from 10 .00 to 10.30 a.m. and 11.30 p.m. to 12.00 a.m. and on Monday from 12.30 to 1.00 p.m. and 7.30 to 8 .00 p.m.

A statement from the Marketing Communications Department of Globacom said the company was greatly delighted to bring Adeboye to millions of viewers across the globe. It explained that the choice of Adeboye as guest on “African Voices” was in line with the programme’s objective to showcase successful and high-profile African personalities who are shaping the continent.
Pastor Adeboye who is hugely admired by millions of followers has turned RCCG into one of the fastest growing and biggest churches in the world. His monthly Holy Ghost Service is attended by hundreds of thousands of worshippers.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God, which was not well known before Adeboye took charge, has branches in over a hundred countries, including more than 14,000 in Nigeria. He has stated that his vision is to put a church within five minutes of every person on Earth.
Before joining the RCCG, Adeboye was a mathematics lecturer, and worked at the universities of Lagos and Ilorin. He has a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Lagos, hitting a successful career in the academic world.
After he joined the Redeemed Church , he began working to translate the sermons of its then pastor and founder, Rev. Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, from Yoruba into English. In 1981 at only 38 years of age, Adeboye became the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church Of God, making him leader of the Church after the death of Papa Akindayomi the previous year.
For three years, he filled the role part_time, still lecturing at Ilorin, until giving up his university position to preach full_time.
In 2008 Newsweek magazine named Pastor Adeboye one of the fifty most powerful people in the world. He was born on 2nd March 1942 at Ifewara in the present day Osun State.
Globacom said Adeboye will take the audience through his inspirational life journey, how he battled severe poverty to see himself through university education , his encounter with God and how he built a hitherto unknown RCCG into one of the most popular churches in the world.
